3D fructure simulations at Almaden

It turns out that a bcc Lennard-Jones crystal can cleave in mode I
fracture only along a certain crystal plane. As these simulations
show, as soon as dynamic cleaving fracture becomes unstable and
deviates from this special plane, the crack is arrested and loop
dislocations are emitted. You can find a mpeg clip at the
